Our History
The organization began in 1982 and no records could be found as to whether things were formally organized or merely a group of investors getting together. Old newsletters of MREIA have been traced back to 1985, when the organization was known as the Northern New Jersey Real Estate Investors Club, Inc. (NNJREIC). Meetings were held at the Coachman Inn, Cranford NJ. In 1985, membership increased from 20 to over 500!
In September 1985, the “New Jersey Real Estate Informer” newsletter was born. Prior to said date, a double-sided monthly letter was written by Gary Knight, who also served as President in 1985.
In October 1988, NNJREIC and RAND merged to form the Metropolitan Real Estate and Investors Association, Inc. (MREIA) The name of the newsletter was also changed from the New Jersey Real Estate Informer to The Metro. In 2014, MREIA was reorganized to form the Metro Real Estate Investors Association, Inc.
